Thursday Thirteen--Leeann style
I saw this on Leeann's blog and thought it would be fun to play along.
13 Things I Want To Know About You
1. Would you eat spoiled food from the garbage, or go hungry?
Go hungry as long as I could. Eventually I would probably eat it, but I would have to be starving to death. Literally
2. Would you make one adult film, if it meant that you would never have to work again?
Absolutely not.
3. In your relationship, you find out that a baby has been conceived. One of you wants the baby, the other doesn't. Who has the right to choose?
The one that wants it. But they also have to take care of it in every way
4. You are in a serious accident in the middle of nowhere and you only chance of survival is to cut off your own arm. Would you do it?
I don't know. Because I would probably die anyway
5. Do you think it is important to tell the truth, or spare someones feelings?
I err on the side of grace. I don't necessarily lie, but truth does not always need to be said out loud. It's ok to just shut your trap
6. What is something you find yourself constantly thinking about?
The mess in my house
7. If your house was on fire, what is the one thing you would have to save (of course, I am assuming that all people/pets are safe)?
Car keys, cell phone, insurance papers. (No, not the pictures. That is why I use web albums.)
8. Forgive and forget? Or forget to forgive?
Forgive, but who ever really forgets?
9. Why are you best friends with your best friend?
Because we can be real with each other
10. Name one challenge you are faced with on a regular basis.
Depression
11. Do you think its possible to only love one person for the rest of your life?
In a perfect world, yes.
12. If you had the skills, what is your dream job?
Flipping houses
13. What is your favorite quote/saying/scripture?
“No bastard ever won a war dying for his country. You win a war by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.” — General George Patton I read this in Flags of our Fathers and thought it was great.

So funny....
I just got this in an email and couldn't resist posting it.
These men have just finished placing solid steel pillars in concrete to stop vehicles from parking on the pavement outside a sports bar downtown. They are cleaning up at the end of the day.
How long do you think it took until they realized their mistake?

Thursday Thirteen
Being thankful that Grandma pulled through surgery fine and hopefully we will have her around for many more years now, I got to thinking how often someone in our immediate family has been in the hospital in the last 1 1/2 to 2 years.
We had made a rule for 2008 that we were not going to do the hospital thing this year. But Grandma, being the rebel that she is, had to break the rule 15 days into the new year. Here's a glimpse of the prayers we have prayed.
1. Mom's heart issues
2. Mom's intestinal issues
3. Sister's first surgery
4. Sister's second surgery
5. Sister's third surgery
6. Step-dad's appendix
7. Rara's appendix
8. MIL first foot surgery
9. MIL second foot surgery (today at noon)
10. Mom's foot surgery
11. Grandma's heart
12. Nephew's minor surgery/ procedure
13. Grandpa's heart

Tapestry of Grace
For our main curriculum, we have chosen to use Tapestry of Grace. I am able to teach my kids all at the same time, and yet make it interesting and challenging for all levels. I have found it to be easily outlined, well organized, and very useful. I also like it that it is easy to personalize for our family.
That being said, I have also recently become somewhat of an affiliate. They have a program that if you share and tell your friends you can earn money off of your products you order. So that means that I'm not actually making money at this, but I can earn maybe some new books or materials. If you or someone you know is ordering, please use my code if you don't already have a code you are currently using.
By the way...if you are ordering the redesigned years, the price is going up $45 on February 1st. The current price is $180. It will be going up to $225. Now is a great time to order.

And then there were 3
Desti's puppy, Gracie, went home last night. A couple weeks before Christmas we received a phone call asking about the puppies and they eventually decided to claim the female puppy. It was a very long wait for Ms. Emma who had been wanting a puppy (she is the girl in the pink outfit at the bottom left)
The family came up last night to take her home. Emma seemed very happy with her puppy and although it is sorta sad to see her go, we still have 3 puppies that wake us up early, make messes, and are not quite potty trained. And I have a feeling Gracie will be spoiled. They even brought her a coat so she wouldn't get too cold outside.
The neatest thing about this, is that they are from Knights home town, and have offered to let us come see her. Desti and Emma have talked about being email pals, and Emma has agreed to send pictures so we can watch Gracie grow up.
One down 3 to go.

Even Though....
Even though...
...there are dishes in the sink...
...there is laundry ALWAYS waiting to be done...
...the kids rooms are not as clean as I would like...
...there is always paperwork to do or file...
...someone could make a dust castle in my house...
...my windows go unwashed...
...my kids may fight at times...
...there is constant noise, and I prefer quiet...
...convenience is traded for health in many meals...
...we have the rules posted, they do not get followed at times...
...we have the chores posted, they do not get done at times...
...I live in a state that stays below freezing WAY too long...
...this is still just another day in paradise.

Introducing.....Favorite Friday!!!
Thinking about how to get the kids involved in blogging more, and therefor writing more, I am introducing Favorite Friday. Each month I will give my kids an assignment of listing their favorite ____ and why it is their favorite. Each Friday of the month each child will have their turn in the spotlight. I will also take the time to give you the preset favorites of each month in case you and/or your children would like to join us. I will also have a Mr Linky at the end of my child's post for those who join us. Come, on! It will be fun!
January's questions are....
What is your favorite food?
What is your favorite book/author/or book series? Why?
What is your favorite season? Why?
What is your favorite memory?
Stay tuned to find out who is in the spotlight today and what their answers are....

Fresh Starts
As the new year has started, there is a feeling of a fresh start here at home. We went back to our schedule today...school, work, chores. You know, life.
Are you thinking "Why start a new year off working?"
Are you kidding?
Knight has been barely working since the 23rd. We have had nearly 10 days off schedule. Church services have been limited since they have canceled Sunday evening and Wednesday services.
I feel as if I have been floating aimlessly.
Not a good feeling for me.
So today, J-bell looks at me and says "I can't remember where we are supposed to be in math."
I tell her to look at where she left off.
She then informs me that she has not been keeping up with my schedule.
Then I look at Desti's. She's behind too.
Same with Rara.
J-bird is the only one caught up.
So for now, we are buckling down, getting caught up on school and chores. Therefore, I am shutting off the house phone. Cell is on for emergencies. Call if you must. I am happy to be there for you in an emergency. Otherwise, please give us a week.
On another note, did you notice the change in the sidebar?
I now have all the family able to contribute to the blog. I am hoping to get the kids writing more, and Knight at times has something to share. If it doesn't "sound" like me talking, take note of who the post is by.
Happy 2008. Here's to another fresh start
