The newest sports fan

Just hours after blogging about nothing the kids let me know that we have a new Packer fan/golfer in our family. They were having a great time, and believe it or not, so was Allie.

Strange kids... even stranger dog. With that said, we learned that Allie loves to go fishing, almost as much as my mom's dog. She liked being on the dock watching them cast and loved it when they caught a fish!

FYI

Just to let you know...

If...

your family enjoys kayaking, but is just getting into it and figuring it all out...

and if your husband decides he wants to see how the dog will do kayaking...

and if his plan is to get a blow up raft and put the dog in that and tow it, having one of the kids sit in the raft holding the dog...

and if you have never seen this dog around big bodies of water so you don't know if it likes it...

then...

...you may have a dog that does not like the raft

...the dog may jump out of the raft a couple times

...the dog may crawl up onto the tandem sit on top in the middle of the lake

...the dog will keep shaking all the water off, but it is now in a kayak with you, spraying you.

...the dog may kiss solid ground when you finally reach shore again.

I'm just sayin'

Cuddle time anyone?

This was the scene last night as we were heading to bed. Allie and J-Bird going to sleep. Allie normally sleeps with him. Sometimes she switches it up and sleeps with the girls but I don't think she gets the cuddle time she gets with J-Bird.

The invisible fence

I have had a rough time with having Allie a part of our family. This dog loves to run off. If she got any little crack to go through she would take off and run. This would leave us trying to catch her. She knows our car and will run from that, food is no incentive, and she learned that strangers would normally grab her for us. That left us with trying to chase her into a fenced area, trapping her. And that could take an hour. Sometimes more. Given that the kids are normally the ones to tie her out, we were doing this 3-4 days a week.

This is not something I love to do. Especially when it is -180 degrees with a windchill of -500. Yeah, it's been a cold winter up here in Wisconsin.

Knight wanted to keep the dog. Wouldn't you if you never had to deal with the running...or chewing...or whatever? Even the kids were getting ready to get rid of her. But being the submissive wife ok, trying not to start a war, I was trying to wait until the snow melts to get an invisible fence. But this was going to be a long wait. And it seemed longer each time she ran off.

I was at spanish class talking to one of the other moms telling her that I can't wait until the snow melts so I can get an invisible fence. I know this mom had dogs using an invisible fence. Her dogs don't ever leave the area. That is when she told me that the kind they have you don't have to bury wires.

Did you know there was such a thing????

I didn't. So I seriously went from spanish class to Menards to pick one of these babies up. It took a little while to figure out where in my house to put it and how big of a circle I could get without getting into the road or the neighbors yard. I put the flags up so she could see her circle. Then it was time to get the dog.

She hit that fence and recoiled. It worked. She didn't know what hit her but she knew she didn't like it. I showed her around the yard and let her know where her boundaries were. Then we went in the house.

The next day I just let her outside. By this time I think she forgot all about it, because she bounded out of the house with all her freedom, ready to run. And she did run. Right through the fence. But she did turn right around. It was beeping at her and she was so afraid to move that she wouldn't go anywhere.

Knight walked up to her and brought her back.

She was afraid to go out for a couple days. She still is getting comfortable with it, but she now has more freedom, more excercise, and I'm not dealing with the village law enforcement.

I love this thing!!

Now we just need to get her spayed, stop chewing everything, and keep her out of the areas of the house we don't want her in and maybe I'll be able to tolerate her better.

**Announcement**

I need to apologize for the lack of posts lately. Things again have become crazy busy and this time there is a valid reason for it. Yeah, I know, school, church functions, awana, visiting, and all of the normal things can be valid excuses but this time is for real.

I received a phone call from someone looking for help. She had knowledge of and had a burden for this precious, sweet little girl that was currently without a home. This friend is not in the position to bring her into her family at this time, even though she and her whole family would love to be a huge part of her life, they just couldn't. And since she knew that I can never say no to those who actually need help she called me.

That was on Friday.

I said that I really didn't think that adding to my family would be best at this time.

Then on Saturday I went just to meet her. The kids instantly fell in love. She really IS the sweetest thing. I called Knight. He told me to go ahead and bring her home.

So now we have added to our family. At least for now.

We don't know if it is a temporary placement or if she will become a permanent part of our family but for now we are a family of 7.

Her name is Allie. For those who know our real names....say her name along with our last name. It will make you smile.
